Know Yourself, Grow in Knowledge, Strengthen Your Team

Why is knowledge a virtue? According to our virtue statement we will be the experts in our industry as knowledgeable people. Often, what I thought I knew was actually what I needed to know or maybe I didn’t really know what I thought I already knew. Even more than that, the person I thought I knew, I didn’t really know. Perhaps some of you can relate? To grow in knowledge is the outworking of our virtue “knowledgeable.” Said another way – we are never fully knowledgeable, there is always more to know, more to learn – especially when we truly consider ourselves.

What does it mean to know yourself? Consider this – you can never grow in knowledge of any trade, craft, or person unless you first know yourself. Knowing yourself, your strengths, weaknesses, tendencies, aptitudes, etc, allows one to continue on the path of knowledge. Knowing ourselves drives us to improve upon what we don’t know. To know someone else, and to know that person better requires me to first know myself, (and the same is true for the other person). Building healthy relationships requires both parties to be honest with themselves about who they are first before knowing one another better can begin.

At Home Brands we are team oriented, we strive toward a people first culture, and believe that when we do this well, good process produces the results we seek (profit). True knowledge should lead us to humility (our next virtue) but I won’t skip ahead to next weeks virtue! Building healthy teams is the foundation to our success and the backbone of our service offering. As we look to a new year, lets become more knowledgeable together. Lets seek to know ourselves better, and to know better those we work along side each day. This is virtuous knowledge.
