Who do you rely on—or better yet, in whom do you rely?
As I reflect on the present, I realize more and more that I would not be where I am today without the relationships and hard work of others. It’s easy to think our achievements rest solely on our own merits—our grit, knowledge, and ambition. But isn’t it true that who we are and what we achieve is really the sum of both our own efforts and the support of those around us?
A selfish ambition seeks advancement at the expense of others. True humility, however, recognizes that our ambitions are only possible because of the care, effort, and sacrifices of others.
Humility begins with reliance. When we truly rely on others, their well-being and success become more important than our own. This perspective transforms how we approach our work and our lives—by considering others first.
Even more, it points to a greater question: In whom do you ultimately rely? In whom do you trust?
For me, that answer is Jesus Christ. He has put me first even when I did not deserve it—and that has changed my life. If you don’t know Him, know this: He will always put you first, because He cares for you and is the very embodiment of humility. I’d love to introduce you to Him.
