“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”
Proverbs 22:29
“Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.”
Psalm 119:66
I believe it is important that we seek opportunities to grow in knowledge and gain understanding in how to apply what we learn to our profession and our lives. If we stop learning we run the risk of stunting our growth.
In my experience, we can gain a deeper understanding of a skill and/or body of knowledge when we look for opportunities to help others learn and grow. I suspect we can all remember a teacher or mentor in our lives that invested in us, helped us learn, and gave us good counsel in work and life.
I have read that teaching is the act of imparting knowledge, skills, and virtues to the one learning. A teacher or mentor works to meet the needs of the one learning, guiding them through new concepts or skills, and fostering their growth into a more capable individual.
When we have the opportunity to teach others we generally gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter. As many of us have experienced, the role of a teacher can extend beyond formal institutions. Effective teaching involves continuous learning, adaptation, and a passion for our success and that of the student.
May you find greater success investing in learning and leading others.
