Be the Person Others Can Rely On

Thinking about our virtues each week, specifically one virtue each week, is way to reflect on personal and professional growth in our work lives. I wanted to start this week by reflecting on the Home Brands virtue of Dependable.

One thought to consider: Whether I am dependable or not does not change the fact that others depend on me, and I depend on others. Isn’t this true of all of us?

Being dependable at work, or being known as a dependable person is a defining characteristic (or a defining virtue) of who you are. What do people think of me at work, and in my personal life when considering the type of person I am – What is my observable character? Achieving growth in this area requires work, and discipline.

One of my personal goals this year is to be more consistent with those who depend on me – with my family, as a leader at work, and in my community. The outworking of consistency – committing to priorities, and following through with actions that demonstrate intentionality – leads to Dependability. I want to be known as someone who lives virtuously as dependable.

Let’s work on being more dependable together!
