Gritty is the practice of getting things done the right way, no matter the obstacle, circumstance, or situation.
Have you ever observed a colony of ants in action? The colony is divided into various castes or ranks. The backbone of any ant colony is made up of the worker ants. These little fellas forage for food, transport resources back to the nest, dig and maintain the tunnels, and defend the nest from predators. Worker ants are gritty, never taking a shortcut or a day off. The entire colony’s survival depends on group communication and individual grittiness. Ants are gritty, but gritty with a purpose. Each little task completed is a stepping stone to the colony’s overall success.
How well does Home Brands exemplify the grittiness we see in ants? As of December 30, Home Brands impacted thousands of homes in 2024.
As I think about grit and what it takes to service 7,700+ jobs, I think of all that goes into generating this amount of work. Marketing generated thousands of leads, CSRs handled thousands of phone calls/web forms and booked thousands of inspections, inspectors converted thousands of estimates, and technicians performed thousands of jobs.
Grit is a must for each Home Brands associate. The absence of grit in any one operational area hinders the single unit from achieving its highest level of success. As we enter 2025, take stock of your resolve to do your job well, knowing individual performance directly impacts single-unit success and peace of mind for thousands of households within our markets.
Grit is more than saying what we can do, or even what we will do. It is doing whatever it takes to get the job done and done well. It takes passion and perseverance to live a life of grit. Do you love what you do? Stick at it.
I love the verse associated with this virtue, Proverbs 14:23. “In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.” Hard work and action are necessary for success. 2024 is a year to build on, 2025 and beyond are set up for big things.
